If you’re using water delivery for the first time and wonder what is bottle deposit. Coastal Water Store is here to help you understand.
Definition
Customers often notice a bottle deposit on their first order and wonder why it’s there. The deposit isn’t for the water itself – it’s simply a temporary charge for the bottle that holds it. You only pay for the water inside, while the $10 deposit ensures the bottle can be reused, cleaned, and returned.

Why this system matters?
The deposit keeps the bottles in circulation so they can be cleaned, sanitized, and reused. It also means you never have to worry about buying new bottles every time. You pay it once, and you get it back whenever you return the bottle
A reuse loop like this saves thousands of single-use bottles every year. It also means you’re drinking from bottles that are sanitized in a professional wash system rather than something disposable. It’s better for the planet and better for your wallet.
If you have old bottles…
One of the most common questions we get is whether we accept Canadian Springs or Culligan bottles. The answer is no – we only use BPA‑free, industry‑standard 5‑gallon bottles manufactured after 2020. Below, you’ll see examples of bottle designs we don’t accept.

If your bottles don’t match those designs, even if they’ve been sitting around for a while, they still qualify. As long as they’re in good condition, we’ll gladly take them back and refund your deposit.”
A quick example
If you order 4 bottles for the first time, the deposit is $40.00. When you return the 4 empties on the next delivery, you get the full $40 back. If you keep 1 bottle for an extra week, you get $30 back now and the remaining $10 when the last bottle comes home.
